About the Book
“RESPECT - Delivering Results by Giving Employees What They Really Want”
What do Employees Want?
There are differences from employee to employee, of course, but one of the amazing parts of this book is how similar employee desires are around the globe.
There are seven fundamental needs of employees, and it comes down to RESPECT. That is:
Recognition
Exciting Work
Security
Pay
Education and Career Growth
Conditions
Truth and Transparent Leaders
Each element of RESPECT has its own chapter in the book with practical, actionable solutions for managers, executives and HR professionals for creating the next-generation workplace where both employees and employers get what they want.
Give RESPECT and reap the rewards
Dr. Jack Wiley and Dr. Brenda Kowske researched the very elements of RESPECT to see if companies that achieved high RESPECT scores from their employees also fared better in the marketplace. The answer has been a resounding YES.
- Engagement: Employees who get what they want from their organizations are more engaged than their unfulfilled counterparts. Their scores are 40 percentage points higher than their peers when it comes to workplace pride, satisfaction, advocacy and commitment.
- Performance: High-RESPECT employees outscore their low-RESPECT counterparts by more than 25 percentage points when asked about their companies’ product quality, customer satisfaction and competiveness.
- Customer Service: High-RESPECT companies achieve excellent scores, and greatly out perform their low-RESPECT competitors on the American Customer Satisfaction Index.
- Profit: By correlating RESPECT scores against Diluted Earnings per Share, Return on Assets, and Total Shareholder Return, Wiley and Kowske found the High-RESPECT companies outperformed their low-RESPECT competitors across all three financial metrics.
Chapter two of RESPECT examines in some detail the links between giving employees what they want and benefits to all four areas of the Balanced Business Scorecard. This book isn’t just about giving workers what they want; it’s also about delivering better business and financial results.
